Ethereal Moon Mousery Terms and Policies

Effective Date: 04/16/2026

Ethereal Moon Mousery is a small hobby mousery based in Southern California focused on health, temperament, ethical placement, and responsible breeding.

By submitting an application, placing a deposit, or purchasing any mouse from Ethereal Moon Mousery, you agree to the following terms.

Placement purchase requirements

Applications that do not reflect understanding of my policies may not be approved.

Minimum Standards

To protect my animals, I require:

  • appropriate enclosure size and safe ventilation
  • suitable bedding (NO cedar; no scented bedding)
  • appropriate diet and clean water
  • enrichment and clutter to reduce stress

I may request enclosure photos/videos prior to approval.

Social & Housing Requirements

  • Females must be bought in groups (minimum: 3 females) unless otherwise approved in emergency situations on a case by case basis.
  • Females must be housed in colonies as they are social animals.
  • Males will not be placed in pet homes and are reserved to breeder only placement.

Should a mouse end up alone, I require to be contacted so I can help place the mouse in a proper home or provide the animal with new friends. I reserve the right to decline placement if I feel a home is not the right fit.

Age Requirements and Gifts

Mice are living animals and require ongoing care.

  • I do not place mice as surprise gifts.
  • If a mouse is intended for someone else, that person must apply and communicate with me directly.

Minimum ages:

  • Pet adoption: 15+ (minors require parent/guardian approval)
  • Breeding animals: 18+
  • No parent/guardian approval = must be 18+

Deposits and Reservations

Reservation Process

  • All mice are first come, first served at the price of $20 per mouse and reserved with a deposit of $10 for half the price of the mouse.
  • A deposit confirms a reservation and removes that mouse from availability.
  • Mice will not be held without reservation.

All mice are priced at $20 total per mouse. Pricing is not based on color, but equal value. All funds made from sales go right back into the mousery and profits are never made from sales. Deposits are required as proof of ability to properly care for the animals.

Deposit Amount

Reservation deposits are typically 50% of the purchase price at $10 per mouse and are due within 24 hours of selection of the mice.

Deposit Policy

Deposits are non-refundable if:

  • the buyer cancels,
  • the buyer fails to complete payment,
  • or the buyer does not schedule pickup/transport in the required timeframe.

Deposits are refunded if:

  • Ethereal Moon Mousery cancels the sale (example: health concern, mis-sexing, safety/temperament concern, or if the mouse becomes unavailable).
  • At breeder fault

In some situations, deposits may be transferred to a different available mouse or to a future litter credit (at my discretion).

Buyer Requirements

In order to be approved for placement:

  • Proof of enclosure is required
  • Approved application is required
  • A signed contract is required before being added to the waitlist group

Consistent communication is required for the approval process. If communication is not kept, application approval is forfeit.


Payments

Accepted payment methods: (Venmo / CashApp / cash)

  • Final balance is due before pickup/transfer.
  • No animal leaves my care until paid in full.
  • All transport sales are due up front. 50% of the price still qualifies as the deposit and is non-refundable.

Pick Up, Holding, and Late Policy

Pickup Timeline

Once a mouse is ready for transfer, pickup must occur within 7 days, and transport must occur within 30 days unless otherwise agreed in writing. Should an event take place where an emergency prevents these time frames from follow-through, I require I be informed so I can help out and adjust as needed.

Holding

We can hold fully paid animals for up to 30 days pending breeder descretion.

If pickup is delayed without arrangement, I may:

  • charge a boarding fee of $2 per day, OR
  • cancel the reservation and rehome the animal (depending on the situation)

Transport and Delivery

I do not ship mice through USPS as it is illegal to ship rodents.

I may work with:

  • reputable ground transporters, (e,g. Dunn’s Critter transport, Mel’s Neighborhood Transport) OR
  • local delivery within 2 hours.
  • a transport fee may apply of $0.64 per mile.
  • transport costs will not apply if the transporter meets in my city or you pick up in person at one of my set locations.

Transport Responsibility

Transport is a third-party. Outside transport arrangements and cost are the buyer’s responsibility, including:

  • booking
  • carrier communication
  • fees and delays
  • risk associated with transport stress and health may void the 7-day pathogen guarantee.

When Responsibility Transfers

Once the animal is released to the transporter/carrier, the animal is considered in the buyer’s custody.

I do my best to ensure the animal is healthy at the time of transfer, but transport stress and illness is outside my control. Should an animal need to be returned, transport costs may be transferred to me as needed.

Health and Statement Garantee

At Time of Transfer

All mice are sold in good faith and are healthy to the best of my knowledge at time of transfer.

7-Day Illness Window

If the mouse becomes severely ill or dies within 7 days of in person transfer, you must:

  • notify me as soon as symptoms are observed,
  • provide photos/videos,
  • provide enclosure details (bedding, food, temp, cage mates)

This time limit may be extended in rare cases involving confirmed infectious diseases when all of the following apply:


  • The transfer was made in person. 
  • The buyer provides laboratory testing results. (PCR or equivalent)
  • The condition is known to be capable of asymptomatic/latent presentation, and
  • Ethereal Moon Mousery tests the current stock and receives a matching positive result.

In such cases, resolution may include replacement after an appropriate quarantine/recovery period and confirmed negative testing when applicable, mousery credit, or transfer of the reservation to another eligible animal (including when available, through a trusted partner/sister program) The use of a third-party transport voids the pathogen guarantee or 7-day illness window.

If eligible, I may offer:

  • replacement mouse (when available), OR
  • mousery credit equal to purchase price

1-Year Genetic Guarantee 

Genetic outcomes cannot be guaranteed, but I stand behind my lines. If the mouse dies unexpectedly within 1 year due to suspected congenital/genetic causes, I may offer a replacement or credit.

This does not include pathogen illness, illness/injury related to husbandry, transport stress, fights, improper introductions, or accidents. 

Veterinary Bills

I do not cover veterinary or lab testing cost.

Quarantine Policy

If you currently own rodents or other small animals, I strongly recommend quarantining new arrivals for at least 6 weeks in a separate airspace without breeding or 12 weeks if you do breed in quarantine. The use of outside transport is at higher risk of pathogen transmission and voids the 7-day illness window guarantee.

Pathogen Testing and Disclosure

Health testing has limitations and reflects only a point in time. Not all pathogens are testable, and results cannot guarantee a completely pathogen-free environment.

Ethereal Moon Mousery can only provide information on what pathogens their lines are known to be free of based on current testing and observation, and cannot guarantee or disclose the complete absence or presence of all pathogens.

Ongoing exposure risks exist outside of my control, especially when transport is used.

Pet Only VS. Breeding Rights

Some mice are sold as:

  • Pet Only, or
  • Breeding Rights

Pet only animals cannot, under any circumstance, be bred. The breeding of our animals requires a separate approval process. If a pet only animal is bred, this is a violation of my policy. Future sales may be denied. I require you inform me in the event of an accidental pregnancy. 

In such events, I may:

  • Require the animal be brought back to me while she kindles her litter
  • Require the animal be given to a trusted mousery in your area for proper care

The mouse will then be given back to you after the litter has been raised at my discretion. The rights of the animal may be forfeit under certain circumstances or until the cause of the pregnancy has been handled responsibly. Open communication and cooperation will help determine the outcome.

Right to Refuse Sale

I reserve the right to refuse or cancel any sale if:

  • I believe placement is unsafe or unsuitable,
  • the buyer is not meeting care standards,
  • communication becomes hostile or dishonest,
  • or circumstances change affecting animal welfare.

If I cancel, any payments already made, other than the non-refundable deposit, will be refunded unless the buyer has violated these terms (example: harassment, threats, chargeback attempts).

Rehome Policy/Right of First Contact

If at any point you are no longer able to keep your mouse/mice, you are required to notify Ethereal Moon Mousery.

I will make every reasonable effort to:

  • assist with rehoming resources
  • take the mouse/mice back under certain circumstances
  • help facilitate a safe placement.

In some situations I may be able to:

  • take the animal back under separate quarantine housing, or
  • assist with placement through a trusted breeder.

Mice may not be surrendered to a pet store, feeder sale, or unvetted third party. Refunds are not permitted in this situation but transport costs may be covered at my discretion. Independent rehoming is not allowed under any circumstance and may place you on the do-not-sell list.

Privacy Policy

Ethereal Moon Mousery values your privacy.

What We Collect

We may collect:

  • your name
  • email address
  • city/state
  • application answers (including enclosure details)
  • communication records (messages/email)

How I Use Information

I use this information to:

  • review applications
  • communicate about availability and adoption
  • maintain accurate records for ethical placement

Sharing

I do not sell your information. I may share limited information only when required for transport coordination or legal compliance.

Security

I take reasonable steps to protect private information but cannot guarantee security of third-party platforms (Facebook, email, website forms).
